Job description

Overview

Visitor Service Team Member - Fixed Term.

We’re looking for friendly, motivated people to join us on a six-month fixed-term contract over our busy summer season.

This is a hands-on, varied role where no two days are alike — you’ll rotate across admissions, retail, café, and events, welcoming visitors, selling tickets and tours, serving in the café, supporting retail sales, and helping deliver functions and birthday parties.

You’ll be part of a supportive team and a fair roster that ensures everyone gets their share of weekends off.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with visitors at front-of-house, sharing local knowledge, answering queries, and promoting aquarium experiences and memberships.

  • Support our café and retail spaces by serving customers, maintaining high hygiene standards, and seeking opportunities for additional sales.

  • Help bring events to life, from responding to party bookings to assisting with set-up, service, and pack-down for functions and celebrations.

About You

  • Confident communicator with a passion for delivering top-notch customer service across front-of-house, food service, and retail.

  • 1–2 years of experience in a customer service role.

  • Solid computer skills and attention to detail.

What we Offer

  • Discounted Health Insurance Work Scheme + Eye Test Subsidy
  • Retailer Discounts + Study assistance
  • Employee Assistance Program (OCP)
  • Quarterly values awards + Birthday vouchers + Social club
  • Free flu vaccinations (annual)
  • Ka Awatea Cultural Wānanga + NCC Kapa Haka
  • Te Reo Māori language classes

This is a fixed-term opportunity for six months.

You’ll work 33 hours per week across 4 days as rostered (over 7 days, including public holidays).

You will be based at the National Aquarium of New Zealand on Napier’s Marine Parade.

The hourly rate for this role is between $24.40-$28.70 (including KiwiSaver) with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.

Applications for this role close on 31 October 2025.

We interview applications as they are received and may close the role when we have found the right person.

Please do not delay in making your application.
