About this role | Mo tenei turanga
We're looking to fill two permanent, full-time positions within our School Transport Group.
While our preferred locations are Otago/Southland and Auckland, we welcome applications from across the motu.
In this role, you'll contribute to the delivery of safe, reliable, and efficient school transport services for communities across Aotearoa.
You'll work both regionally and nationally, managing transport routes, assessing student eligibility, ensuring contract compliance, and leading route reviews to improve service delivery.
This is a highly collaborative role, involving regular engagement with schools, transport providers, communities, and internal Ministry teams.
You'll be part of a team that values partnership, continuous improvement, and equity in access to education.
Key responsibilities include:
* Managing and reviewing school transport routes to ensure they meet policy and operational requirements * Assessing student eligibility for transport assistance in line with Ministry guidelines * Monitoring and supporting contract compliance with transport providers * Leading route reviews and contributing to service improvements * Building and maintaining strong relationships with schools, communities, and stakeholders * Collaborating with internal teams to align transport services with broader education outcomes.
This role would suit someone who:
* Is confident working with data, systems, and processes * Enjoys problem-solving and continuous learning * Communicates clearly and builds trust with diverse stakeholders * Can work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment * Has a strong attention to detail and a commitment to equity.
Salary range: $85,225 - $94,148 per annum + 3% kiwi saver.
The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

School Transport sits within Te Pae Aronui | Operations and Integration - Te Tahuhu o te Matauranga | Ministry of Education, a division that brings together the power of information, insights - including whanau voice - and service design capability to help frontline groups effectively deliver today and design services tomorrow.
School Transport is the second largest procurer of public transport services in the country (after Auckland Transport) and spends around $255m each year assisting over 100,000 akonga to school each day.
