About the team
The School of Chemical Sciences Instrument Technologist team is comprised of 6 specialist roles which support researchers across the University.
We are part of the larger Professional Staff Technical Services Group.
Our team plays a pivotal role in enabling teaching, learning, and research through the strategic use of analytical instrumentation.
We collaborate closely with academic staff and their research groups to design, implement, and support solutions that enhance the university's research and operational capabilities.
The opportunity
Are you a technically minded professional with a passion for scientific instrumentation and research excellence?
The Faculty of Science is seeking a highly skilled Technologist to support our world-class Mass Spectrometry Facility within the School of Chemical Sciences.
Key Responsibilities
Overseeing the use and maintenance of advanced analytical instruments, including gas and liquid chromatography systems, triple quadrupole and high-resolution mass spectrometers.
Providing specialist training and support to researchers and postgraduate students.
Developing and implementing analytical methods, ensuring the collection of high-quality research data.
Managing compliance, safety, and reporting processes for the facility.
Contributing to planning, procurement, and the continuous improvement of facility capabilities.
You'll play a key role in supporting innovative research by ensuring reliable access to leading-edge mass spectrometry technologies and by collaborating closely with academic staff and students.
Position Details
This role is a full-time, permanent position with a starting date of 1st January ****.
Remuneration: $72, $84,709 per annum, dependent on experience.
About you
A BSc (Hons) or higher in Chemical Sciences (or related field) with a focus on mass spectrometry.
Four or more years' experience operating and maintaining major analytical instruments such as GC-MS, LC-MS, and high-resolution mass spectrometers.
Strong technical troubleshooting ability, a broad knowledge of chemical laboratory practices, and an aptitude for precision and detail.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to service, training, and collaboration.
Experience in a research environment and familiarity with advanced spectroscopic techniques will be an advantage.
