About the role:

Working from our client’s offices based at the Auckland airport you will support New Zealand vehicle telematics certification.

You will be responsible for all internal and external hardware, firmware, software, and system testing to troubleshoot issues, drive continuous product improvement, and uphold the highest standards of product quality and customer satisfaction.

You will also be required to travel to other locations across New Zealand as required.

Key responsibilities will include:


  • Conduct fleet vehicle certification, including verifying vehicle operation, odometer readings, fuel levels, VIN details, lock/unlock functionality, GPS integration, and UTP reporting.

  • Perform vehicle test drives for fuel level reporting characterisation and support product system testing.

  • Analyse and troubleshoot vehicle telematics hardware, firmware, and software issues to ensure optimal performance.

  • Provide Tier 1 customer support for UTP-related issues.

  • Document, report, and propose corrective solutions for any issues encountered.

  • Coordinate with the U.S.-based Manager and technical teams to ensure timely completion of certifications.

  • Conduct UTP installations and provide installation training when needed.

  • Fob recording and cloning processes.

  • Reporting as required

  • Adhere to our client’s rules and safety procedures at their facilities and other locations in New Zealand.

What are we looking for:


  • Degree in Electronics, Electrical or equivalent tertiary qualification along with at least 3-year technician working experience.

    In lieu of a formal qualification, working experience will be taken into consideration.

  • Experience with OBDII and CAN Bus systems

  • Strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office - Excel, Word and Teams with a basic networking skills and experience using diagnostic tools, multimeters, scan tools, and ST-Link programming tools required.

  • Full, clean NZ driver’s licence is essential for this position.

  • Automotive experience highly advantageous as role will require a degree of physicality bending, kneeling and working in small spaces within vehicles.

    You will also need to be comfortable handing petrol or diesel for vehicle fuel testing.
