We provide Signals Intelligence and Cyber Security and resilience to organisations of national significance to successfully navigate in an unpredictable world.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Leader to shape and drive research and analysis outcomes for GCSB's Cryptanalysis mission.
The team provides ongoing capability development and analytic support while quickly pivoting to meet operational demands.
The Technical Leader is a team manager of a highly technically focused team and will be fully performing when staff have the skills necessary to quickly-respond to operational requirements.
This team sits in the Intelligence Directorate and is principally based in Wellington.
Travel may be required to support the team.
Our ideal candidate is someone who can demonstrate the core behaviours of a motivated people leader with the technical acumen to support and develop the team's technical competence.
You will lead and empower a team of technical analysts to develop and operationalise capabilities in support of our intelligence mission.
You may be called upon, with the necessary training provided, to coordinate the Intelligence Directorate's operational response to urgent or complex customer-needs to ensure the security and wellbeing of New Zealand.
As Technical Leader you will work closely with the Technical Leader Cryptanalysis Research and the wider unit to help shape the long-term strategy of our Cryptanalysis mission, design data-driven solutions, and provide both technical and personal guidance to your staff.
You will have the opportunity to identify, design and lead projects that deliver new capabilities.
The team will need to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships to develop this mission.
Those relationships are essential to identify mission opportunities and ensure our analysis and capabilities meet customer demands.
To be successful in this role you will:

* Have a data science, DevOps, software development, or system engineering, background.
* Identify innovative and unique opportunities to support the intelligence mission.

Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.
You must:
* Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
* Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
* Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
