Sustainability and Engagement Advisor
Earth Action Trust | ***** hours per week | Fixed-term (6 months, potential extension)
Location: Waiorea Community Recycling Centre, Western Springs (fieldwork across Auckland)
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Earth Action Trust (EAT) — a migrant-led charitable organisation dedicated to empowering Auckland's diverse communities through environmental education and action.
We're seeking a motivated Sustainability and Engagement Advisor to help deliver EAT's hands-on sustainability programmes — from climate action and waste minimisation workshops to grassroots volunteer activations.
This is a dynamic, people-focused role that combines community outreach, programme coordination and creative environmental education.
You'll represent EAT at events and forums, help shape new initiatives and inspire others to live more sustainably through action.
Earth Action Trust (EAT) is an Auckland-based non-profit focused on zero waste, climate action, and community empowerment.
We specialise in connecting migrant and ethnic communities with sustainability initiatives through practical learning experiences.
Our work is guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the tikanga of Kaitiakitanga (guardianship), Kotahitanga (unity), and Whanaungatanga (connection) — values that shape how we engage and care for both people and the environment.
Key responsibilities include:
Designing and delivering practical workshops on sustainability, waste reduction and climate action.
Coordinating community activations (e.g. clean-ups, working bees, eco-hub sessions) and supporting logistics.
Building strong relationships with ethnic and grassroots community groups, partners and volunteers.
Creating culturally relevant resources that make sustainability accessible to everyone, including non-native English speakers.
Supporting reporting, administration and funding documentation for EAT programmes.
Integrating Te Ao Maori values into community initiatives in a practical, inclusive way.
This is a varied and rewarding position suited to someone who enjoys working with people, thrives in dynamic environments and wants their mahi (work) to make a tangible difference in communities.
We are looking for someone who is passionate, proactive and comfortable engaging with diverse communities.
You will thrive on variety — moving between community events, workshops and relationship-building activities.
You will have:
Experience, relevant qualifications and passion in sustainability, zero waste or climate action.
Strong communication and teaching skills — able to engage audiences with practical environmental messages.
A proactive, reliable and adaptable approach, with confidence to work independently or in a small team.
Basic digital skills (Microsoft Office; Canva or communications experience a plus).
A valid driver's licence and access to a car.
Bonus skills (highly valued):
Grant writing or funding application experience.
Gardening knowledge to support EAT's Cornwall Park Community EcoHub.
Te Reo Maori skills or ability to provide a Maori advisory perspective.
Benefits:
Mentoring and guidance to support your transition into the role.
Opportunities for professional development with fluidity around skill building relevant to your career.
This role offers flexibility — your hours will be shaped by your skills, experience and the ways you can add value to our work.
A collaborative and inclusive work culture guided by shared environmental values.
If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
