Role: Solution Architect
Location: Wellington
Start: Immediate
Type: Fixed-term to 30 June 2026
Join NZQA as a Solution Architect at a pivotal time of transformation.
NZQA is looking for an experienced Solution Architect to join our architecture team as we embark on a significant change programme on a fixed term contract.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the establishment phase of a multi-year transformation initiative, delivering early value in 2025/26 and laying the groundwork for the replacement of our core legacy systems (subject to budget approval).
What you'll be doing:
You'll play a key role in shaping and delivering solution architectures that support NZQA's future state.

You'll work closely with business and technical stakeholders to design fit-for-purpose solutions that are scalable, secure, and aligned with our enterprise architecture.
We're looking for someone with proven experience in:
* Designing and delivering solutions for Dynamics 365 Business Central
* Implementing budgeting and forecasting systems
* Enabling e-invoicing capabilities
* Developing complex identity and access management solutions, particularly with Microsoft Entra ID
Bonus points for experience with:
* Delivering solutions on AWS and Azure platforms
* Working in public sector or highly regulated environments
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and guide solution architecture and design, ensuring designs are fit for purpose, high quality and cost effective
* Ensure solution designs are well aligned with NZQA strategic objectives, the IS Strategic Plan and other key documents
* Ensure solution designs reflect NZQA information security policy, standards and industry good practice
* Contribute to the development of information architecture and data models, and review proposed schemas against these
* Contribute to the development of target state architectures, standards and roadmaps
* Support successful project delivery
* Identify and assist with the management of security and technical risks (particularly with regard to proposed solutions)
What You'll Bring
Essential:
* Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate, build relationships and influence at all levels
* Logical, analytical and a critical thinker and problem-solver
* Excellent writing and information organisation/management skills
* Architecting, designing and programming applications
* Experience of integrating existing systems with SaaS applications
* Practiced in delivering complex IAM solutions using Microsoft Entra ID
* Budget and forecasting system implementation.
Desirable:
* Developing solution architectures for enterprise AWS, Azure and Java web platforms

* Knowledge of te ao Māori and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
* Experience in the public or education sectors
* Familiarity with NZQA's role and responsibilities
* Experience in multi-vendor services aggregation environment
Qualifications:A qualification at Level 7 of the NZQF or equivalent industry experience in a similar role.
