Senior Policy Analyst – Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI)
Permanent, full-time, Wellington.
Salary D: $100,934 to $135,076 (midpoint $118,005).
About the Role
As a Senior Policy Analyst you will play a key role in supporting the sustainable growth and resilience of New Zealand's fruit, vegetable, arable, wine and floriculture sectors.
Your responsibilities include:
Provide strategic and regulatory policy advice to reduce regulatory burden.
Contribute to cross-government initiatives and help reduce regulatory burden where possible.
Collaborate closely with other MPI teams and agencies such as MBIE and MfE to ensure the horticulture supply chain is supported and sector needs are well understood.
Support implementation of the sector-led Aotearoa Horticulture Action Plan.
Lead gene technology and resource management reforms.
Develop plant variety rights policy.
Steward regulatory primary legislation such as the Commodity Levies Act, Horticulture Export Authority Act and Kiwifruit Export Regulations.
Qualifications
At least five years of experience in policy development at a senior level.
Strong understanding of government and parliamentary processes.
Proven ability to manage projects and deliver high-quality work.
Experience building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders, Maori and other government agencies.
Knowledge of the primary sector's structure and economic and resource management policy frameworks.
Horticulture experience is beneficial but not essential.
