About the Role | Kōrero mō te tūranga
We are seeking two high-performing Senior Managers to lead teams that deliver impactful advice and drive organisational performance.

This role is about achieving results, ensuring accountability, and strengthening the Treasury's ability to deliver on its strategic priorities.


As a Senior Manager, you will:


  • Lead with Impact: Inspire and manage high-performing teams to deliver cohesive, evidence-based advice that meets the needs of Ministers and stakeholders.
  • Drive Accountability: Set clear objectives, monitor progress, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
  • Deliver Results: Oversee the delivery of timely, actionable, and impactful advice that addresses New Zealand's most pressing economic and public policy challenges.
  • Strengthen Capability: Build the Treasury's future capability by identifying skill gaps, developing talent, and cultivating leadership at all levels.

    We are looking for Senior Managers in the following areas:


    Economic & External Strategy Team - The Economic and External Strategy team provides strategic advice on lifting economic performance, while ensuring emerging global trends are integrated into broader policy priorities.

    We are looking for candidates with a strong background in applied economic policy analysis, a collaborative mindset, and experience in areas such as international economic engagement, economic security and the Māori economy The ideal candidate can balance long-term strategy with actionable policy advice that addresses complex trade-offs.


    Public Finance & Value for Money Team - The team oversees the public financial management system, with responsibility for policy advice to improve how government allocates resources and drives agency performance to achieve value for money.

    Demographic, climate and geopolitical changes are placing growing pressure on public services and the public financial management system needs to evolve in response.

    We are looking for candidates who can lead that change, with a strong background in public policy, an understanding of the public financial management system, and a proven record of delivering reforms in complex systems.

    Experience working in a cross-agency context and translating medium-term strategy into practical action will be highly valued.

  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field such as economics, financial analysis, or public administration.
