Directorate
The Corporate & Finance Directorate is responsible for the development and delivery of financial and business support services to enable the organisation to operate effectively and efficiently.
It provides assurance to the Board and Crown monitoring agencies regarding the effective governance, management of financial risk and integrity of the financial management system.
It delivers financial control and monitoring, and business support and advice around HR management, organisational planning and reporting, programme management, risk, procurement and property services.
Role Purpose
The role will provide accounting information and advice to assist managers to make financial decisions to manage the business.
The role will provide end to end general accounting and financial management activities associated with planning, budgeting, forecasting, management support and performance reporting.
Key Accountabilities
Management Accountant activities
Preparation, analysis and delivery of the annual operating budgets and forecasts.
Advising on strategic planning and business planning.
Variance analysis and monthly reporting.
Ownership of the month end processing.
Financial training and upskilling of responsibility centre managers and customers as required.
Prepare and deliver financial reports to Board level standard.
Provide financial analysis and direction to responsibility centre managers and other customers as required.
Keeping informed of regulatory requirements and best practices in management accounting.
Project Accounting
Evaluate and establish financial business requirements for new projects and activities, assist with developing business cases as required.
Provide advice, reporting and financial support on operating and capital projects.
Escalate issues and risk appropriately.
Relationship management
Manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure they are involved, informed, and consulted as needed.
Demonstrates strong cultural intelligence, the ability to operate effectively in diverse cultural contexts, and the ability to apply cultural analysis to TEC work.
Can identify the importance of, and appropriately incorporate, tikanga and te reo Maori into thinking, planning, and business practices.
Risk management
Contributes to risk identification at a Directorate and organisational level to manage emerging issues and events.
Continuous improvement
Contribute to the ongoing development, implementation, maintenance and review of systems, policies, procedures and practices necessary for the efficient and efficient operation of the team.
Contributes to optimising the performance of the directorate and the TEC as a whole, including achieving through others.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required
The position holder will have:
Relevant tertiary qualification and hold qualified Chartered Accountant status with CAANZ or a similar professional qualification.
Experience preparing operating and capital budgets.
Experience working with projects managing both capital and operational budgets.
Proven ability to develop relationships with non-accountants.
Very good written and oral communication skills.
Proven organisation and time management skills.
Advanced excel abilities (e.g. Pivot tables, SUMIF function, lookups).
Experience using a mid-size financial management information system (TechnologyOne preferred but not required).
