Ngā Pātaka Kōrero o Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland Libraries) have a strong community focus, and we are an extraordinary destination for the people of Auckland.

Our Senior Library & Council Service Assistants play a vital part within our library team ensuring that our libraries within the Whau Local Board, provide a world-class customer experience that is second to none.

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Whau Local Board cluster as a Senior Library & Council Services Assistant, specialising in Children and Youth.

This is a permanent part time 20 hrs position working over a Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

While the role is primarily based at Blockhouse Bay Library, you will also be expected to work across our other local board libraries in Avondale and New Lynn as needed.

In this role, you will support the day-to-day operations of the library service, serving as a role model in delivering excellent customer service to people of all ages and backgrounds.

You'll actively engage with customers in the library, helping them access a wide range of resources and services to ensure a positive and memorable library experience.

Working closely with the Senior Librarian - Children & Youth, you will have the opportunity to connect with local communities through a variety of programmes, delivered both in our library and out in our community.

Blockhouse Bay Library is a busy community library serving a literary community.

We are looking for a flexible all-rounder to join and contribute as part of a high achieving, cohesive team.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has proven ability to creatively engage with children and families.

  • Is motivated, organised, and able to design and deliver creative and engaging children and youth programmes, displays and resources.

  • Is experienced, knowledgeable, and confident in using technology and digital tools to engage with parents, children and youth.

  • Has interest in readers advisory especially for parents, children and youth as our customers are passionate readers and users of the library.

  • Has a strong people focused, and empathy driven work ethic.

    Along with a positive attitude, pride in their work and in the ability to influence others positively.

  • Has a flexible and collaborative approach to work, excellent communication, and attention to detail.

  • Is resilient, adaptable, reliable and able to foster great relationships within the team and across the local board.

  • Has demonstrated experience in customer service.

  • Has a clean driver’s license.
