Arup is seeking a Senior Consultant – Transport Planning to lead analytical and modelling aspects of strategic transport projects across New Zealand.
This role involves working with large datasets and transport models to provide insights that inform decision making through high-quality visualisation and clear communication.
The successful candidate will contribute to business development, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams on nationally significant transport initiatives.
The Opportunity
• Lead the development and execution of transport planning methodologies, including strategic modelling and data analysis for public transport and highway projects.
• Work with large datasets and modelling tools (e.g. SATURN, Cube, EMME, VISUM), summarising findings into clear, actionable insights for decision-makers.
• Represent Arup in client meetings, contribute to transport strategies and business cases, and build strong relationships across the New Zealand transport sector.
• Support and guide junior staff in technical and consulting skills, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
• Contribute to proposals, identify new opportunities, and apply emerging techniques to continuously improve project delivery and client outcomes.

Is this role right for you?
• Relevant qualifications in Engineering, Transport Planning, or a related post-graduate discipline.
• Proven experience in strategic transport modelling and planning within the New Zealand consulting environment.
• Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and GIS with experience of analysis related tools/software such as Python and data visualisation platforms.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in modelling work and familiarity with New Zealand transport agencies and standards.
