__________COLLEGE CATERING, UNIVERSITY UNIONCAMPUS AND COLLEGIATE LIFE SERVICESAbout Our Team/Mo Te TimaCampus and Collegiate Life Services Division is privileged to lead a group of world class services at Otago University, dedicated to promoting the unique Otago experience and collegiate nature of the institution.College Catering is a large food service operation producing over 8500 meals per day to eleven University Colleges.
This role will be based between our Cumberland and Arana College kitchens.The role/Te mahiWe're looking for a Senior Chef to join our friendly and hardworking College food service team.
This is a hands-on role where you'll help prepare tasty, nutritious meals and support the daily running of our kitchens.As part of our college whanau, you'll play a key part in daily life—interacting with students, working alongside a great team, and helping create a warm and welcoming environment through food.
You'll also help guide and support others in the team and step into a supervisory role when the Head Chef or Food Services Manager is off duty.Your skills and experience/Ka Pukeka Me Ka WheakoWe are after someone who is:Experienced in hospitality and enjoys the buzz of a large-scale, busy kitchen.Comfortable and confident handling high-volume meal preparation.Preferably a fully qualified Chef (New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 4), equivalent or higher).
Friendly and approachable, with good communication skills.Enjoy working as part of a team and helping others.Experience operating a food safety program.Can produce high-quality, nutritious meals, considering any special dietary needs.Above all, we're looking for someone who's reliable, enthusiastic, and keen to make a positive contribution to our college community.Further details/PurokoThis is a permanent, full-time, semester time only position (38 weeks a year, February to November), located in Dunedin.Hours of work are 40 hours per week, as per roster.
The hours are more balanced than most hospitality roles, the latest you'll finish is 7pm and includes one weekend day.The appointment range is $31.84 – $33.34 per hour.
Top of range is $34.84 per hour.The University also offers catering staff summer maintenance work as a Trades Assistant to those staff seeking employment outside of the academic year (November to February).
