As a regional council, we are responsible for managing natural resources including air, soil, water and land.

We work in partnership with mana whenua Ngāi Tahu to protect the health of our environment to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our region.

The region’s evolving environmental and political context means we will continue to be agile and adaptive, as we respond to regulatory and environmental changes.

Our mahi (work) is organised around the delivery of our three core services:

  • Public Transport
  • Environmental Regulation and Protection
  • Community Preparedness and Response to Hazards

This role is responsible for planning and designing the public transport network across Canterbury.

Your role has an operational focus, primarily making tangible improvements to the public transport network in the near-term (0-18) months.

You will also contribute longer-term deliverables such as strategic business cases.

You’ll use data, software, and community feedback to create reliable, customer-focused services that support strategic outcomes and encourage patronage growth.

You’ll develop an understanding of bus operations and overlay these considerations in network planning and optimisation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, scheduling and optimising public transport routes and timetables
  • Analysing network performance and recommending improvements
  • Collaborating with internal teams, operators, and stakeholders
  • Supporting technology integration and real-time information systems
  • Engaging with communities to ensure services meet their needs

You’re a skilled planner / scheduler with a passion for public transport and community outcomes.

You bring strong analytical skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

A tertiary qualification in transport planning, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred along with:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in network and transport planning
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with scheduling software, RTI, and GIS
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Salary -The indictive salary range for role is $74,306 to$91,790 per annum based on skills and experience.The specific salary will be discussed at interview stage.
