OverviewRecreate NZ is a youth-based organisation looking for a Programme Facilitator and Coordinator to join our team based in Ellerslie, Auckland.Recreate NZ provides a wide range of services and programmes for youth with intellectual disabilities or neurodiversity.The successful applicant would align closely with Recreate NZ values (as below) and work well within our small passionate team.Ideal applicantThe ideal applicant will have:Relevant qualifications such as a Sport and Recreation or Recreation Therapy Degree, Psychology/Health or Social Science degrees or similar; andA passion for leading small groups in kitchen-based and horticulture settings; andDemonstrated experience working with young people with Down Syndrome; andDemonstrated youth leadership and volunteer management skills; andDemonstrated experience working with youth with intellectual disabilities; andDemonstrated experience designing and delivering adventure, recreation, social, life and horticulture-based work-skills programmes for groups of youth with intellectual disabilities.This is a full-time role, at least 30 hours per week, comprised of:12 hours per week of office-based coordination, plus18 hours of programme delivery/facilitation per week (on average).
Potential additional hours for weekend, camps, holiday programmes and markets.Programme delivery for this role is specifically for the facilitation of our Our Harvest midweek programmes: Kumeu Orchard and Product-Making.
In addition, we are looking for the same person to take over the Coordination and Facilitation role for our Auckland Down Syndrome Association Social Club programmes, taking place the first Saturday of each the month.In addition, the employee is expected to deliver occasional weekend programmes and holiday programmes.
All our programmes are for groups of youth with a variety of mild to moderate intellectual disabilities (for a full range of our programme offerings, check out our website - ).
Our HarvestOur Harvest is a social enterprise managed by Recreate NZ's Moxie work experience programme.
Moxie horticulture teams grow and harvest fresh produce from our gardens and orchards, which then is processed and made into delicious Our Harvest products by our product-making team.This role comprises of facilitating a small group of up to 7 Recreate participants with volunteer support, two days per week on Wednesdays and Thursdays during term time (8.30 am-4.30 pm), with an opportunity for additional days during the school holidays as well as attending weekend markets to sell our products.The core responsibilities of this Our Harvest Programme Facilitator role are the following:Kumeu Orchard:To facilitate work skills learning and goal setting for horticulture trainees.Discuss with and allocate tasks to trainees and the supporting volunteer while ensuring the proper and safe execution of these tasks.Teach and oversee appropriate horticulture skills, gardening knowledge, utilisation of gardening tools and operation of machinery.Driving our trainees from Ellerslie to Kumeu orchard and back.This role would suit someone with practical gardening experience and skills as well as a love for supervising and leading young people in an orchard setting.Product-MakingTo facilitate work skills learning and goal setting for product-making trainees.To maintain appropriate kitchen procedures, processes and systems.To oversee the creation of the Our Harvest chutneys, relishes, jams and sauces.Attend markets with our trainees to sell our products.This role would suit someone with practical kitchen experience, recipe intuition, and a love of leading young people through product creation.ADSA Social Club CoordinatorThe core responsibilities of our ADSA Social Club Coordinator role are the following:This role includes the coordination and facilitation of recreational activities specifically for people with Down Syndrome in the Auckland region who are members of the ADSA Social Club.To develop, implement and maintain recreational opportunities which reflect the aims of the Auckland Down Syndrome Association (ADSA) Social Club and those of Recreate NZ, in line with the provided budget and timelines.To work directly with recreation and leisure agencies and organisations who can deliver activities that can be accessed by ADSA Social Club members.Meet with and introduce new participants and their carers to ADSA and ensure a smooth integration into the ADSA Social Club community.Keep in close communication with and report back to relevant people within ADSA.Attend regional and national meetings and report back to Recreate NZ's Leads Programme Coordinator.Build and maintain close and reciprocal relationships with participants' parents and other carers.For this multi-layered role, we are looking for self-motivated applicants who can help with our regular schedule of programmes to address the demand we are experiencing for our services in this area.All our Programme Facilitators and Coordinators require excellent administration and communication skills, good spoken and written English, plus solid attention to detail event planning skills.
