This dynamic, outward-facing role focuses on community conservation outreach, engaging schools, iwi, stakeholders, and the public to promote and support conservation goals.Role responsibilitiesDeliver conservation outreach and advocacy programmes in the districtBuild strong relationships with iwi, hapu, community groups and schoolsCoordinate and support community conservation events and initiativesUse social media and storytelling to engage audiences and grow conservation awarenessRepresent DOC at public events and speaking engagementsProvide input and advice on concessions and Resource Management Act applicationsWrite clear, concise reports and manage documentationSupport the implementation of relevant conservation legislationSkills and experienceStrong interpersonal skills and ability to engage effectively with a wide range of individualsExperience working with iwi, hapu, community groups, schools or local authoritiesExcellent organisational and event planning skills, managing multiple tasks simultaneouslyExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and making complex themes accessibleOutstanding time management skills and ability to prioritise and maintain accuracy under deadlinesBroad understanding of conservation legislation and management and its contribution to New Zealand's sustainabilityWell-developed sense of cultural awareness, particularly in Te Ao MaoriFlexibility to take on other tasks as reasonably required by DOCContent creation skills, such as photography and creative writing with proven ability to tell stories across social media and communication channelsStrong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its relevance in conservationConfident public speaker able to engage and inspire a range of audiencesPassion for DOC's Kaupapa and understanding of Maori Tikanga and Te Tiriti o WaitangiFull New Zealand Driver's LicenceBenefits and working conditionsDOC places importance on developing a culture where everyone can participate, thrive, and grow.
