Overview

Rocket Lab is an end-to-end space company delivering responsive launch services, spacecraft design and manufacturing, payloads, satellite components, and more, with the goal of opening access to space.

Our Electron rocket is a frequently launched U.S. rocket; Space Systems designs and builds satellites, payloads, and components used on NASA missions and the James Webb Space Telescope.

Rocket Lab’s Electron team is responsible for building, testing, and launching our Electron rocket across our launch sites and test facilities in the United States and New Zealand.

The team is known for moving fast, delivering a reliable rocket to the launch pad time and again.

What you’ll get to do

The Propulsion Technician team works with engineering and production to achieve the highest product quality and safety standards for Electron propulsion.

You will receive engines and components from Production and complete final assembly, testing and any maintenance required for those engines at the Test Complex.

Testing includes acceptance, qualification, and sometimes development testing for Rutherford engines, Curie engines, and Electron stages.

You may also contribute to facility infrastructure work to support maintenance, upgrades and new projects.

You’ll be assigned to one of three WorkCentres (Engine Test, Stage Test or Propulsion Assembly) with cross-functional collaboration as needed with Management.

You will be hands-on, using tools, equipment and facilities to build, launch or test Rocket Lab launch vehicles or components, contributing to the overall production and launch schedule.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualified with 4+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Proven experience with mechanical and electrical production or maintenance activities
  • Ability to follow processes with high attention to detail
  • Good eyesight and ability to inspect assemblies to a high workmanship standard
  • Experience with PPE and safety processes in hazardous environments
  • Experience working in clean room environments including oxygen service cleanliness
  • Ability to identify and communicate deviations and a focus on continuous improvement
  • Appropriate trade certificate in Mechanical or Electrical assembly

  • Ability to work effectively in a team and autonomously
  • Ability to read, understand and follow manufacturing instructions and drawings
  • Strong work ethic with willingness to take on responsibility; able to work long hours if required
  • Calm under pressure and able to take initiative
  • Computer literacy and comfort using smartphones and tablets

Schedule and location

This role is 40 hours per week, 4 days per week on evening shift (Mon – Thurs 1500 – 0130).
