The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

We have a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) opportunity for a Professor or Associate Professor to make significant impact and develop their career in teaching, research and service.

We are open to expertise across areas relevant to our Law School, and are particularly interested in applicants who can contribute to our teaching and/or research in any area of the Law.

You will have demonstrated leadership capability and show willingness to take up a future substantial leadership role as opportunities arise, including leading new programme developments, deputy/head of school, associate dean or research centre leader.

You'll teach across programmes as assigned by the Dean of Law.

We embrace practice-led, as well as research-informed, approaches to teaching where the student experience is optimised.

Your contributions to programme and course development will enhance our continuous-improvement focus and you will support embedding Tikanga Māori into New Zealand''s law curriculum.

You will publish actively in your specialised field/s.

We offer an excellent research environment with contestable research funds, and the possibility of collaborative work and student research project supervision.

The successful candidate will likely seek external research funding, engage with government, business, professional bodies and the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities.

Senior academics also provide mentorship to other colleagues in both research and teaching.

The key selection criteria being sought:

1.

Qualification:

• A minimum of a completed research LLM.
  
  

2.

Teaching and Learning:

• Significant undergraduate and postgraduate lecturing experience in Law (including course design, preparation and delivery of lectures, practical sessions, tutorials as well as paper coordination).
  
  
• Ability to contribute to the growth and review of an innovative curriculum and development of high-quality course content, including integration of emerging technologies.
  
  
• Demonstrated ability to attract postgraduate students and a track record of supervising postgraduate students to completion.
  
  

3.

Research and Scholarship:

• Significant experience leading and driving research initiatives in Law, with a strong track record of research outputs, including publications.
  
  Experience with successful external research grant applications if appropriate to your field.
  
  
• Proven experience establishing and nurturing collaborative relationships with peers in related fields, both within the University and across external academic institutions, industry and professional bodies.
  
  
• Appointments to editorial review boards of reputable law journals, editorship/guest editorship experience and/or conference track chairing.
  
  

4.

Citizenship and Service:

• A proven record of academic leadership and service.
  
  
• Experience engaging with external community members, industries, government, professional law bodies or other stakeholders to disseminate research and create opportunities.
  
  
• Experience in engaging with media and translating research to more general audiences.

• Salary ranges: Professor - NZD $162,608 to $209,052.
  
  Associate Professor - NZD $148,548 to $171,983 (specific step within ranges commensurate with relevant skills and experience).
