We are seeking a Professional Teaching Fellow to join the Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care at University of Auckland.

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of general practice in Aotearoa.

In this role, you will contribute to the delivery of the General Practice, Community Health & Rural Medicine (GPCHaRM) curriculum within the undergraduate medical programme.

Youll be based in Rotorua/Lakes region (or possibly in Taranaki), where youll support student cohorts and coordinate high-quality clinical placements in partnership with local GP and urgent care clinics.

Youll be part of a passionate academic team committed to equity, cultural safety, and excellence in medical education.

Your work will directly influence how students experience general practice, helping to inspire and prepare them for careers in primary care a critical area of the health system.

This is a role for someone who thrives on collaboration, values community engagement, and is excited by the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of students and the communities they serve.

This is a part-time (8h per week), fixed-term (12 months) position.

The salary range for this role is $103,717 $136,470   depending on skills and experience.

Our ideal candidate will be a vocationally registered general practitioner (or working towards registration) with:

  • An MBChB or equivalent qualification
  • Clinical experience in general practice
  • Experience teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
  • Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • A collaborative, student-centric approach to teaching and curriculum development
  • Confidence working independently, adaptable to change and demonstrates passion and commitment to continuous improvement in medical education
