* Lead the delivery of performance reporting and monitoring across Health New Zealand
* Provide high-quality insights to drive accountability and system improvement
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.
We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.
Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.
About the Role
As Principal Advisor, Performance Reporting and Monitoring, you will play a critical role in leading Health New Zealand's Planning, Funding and Outcomes (PFO) performance reporting and monitoring function.
You will partner with Directors, senior leaders, and subject matter experts to provide high-quality advice and ensure the delivery of robust and timely performance reports.
This role requires the ability to identify and communicate performance trends, risks, and emerging issues across the organisation.
You will develop and implement tools, frameworks, and systems that strengthen accountability, streamline reporting processes, and support evidence-based decision-making.
Through your expertise and mentoring, you will build reporting capability across PFO and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in performance management.
About the Service
This role sits within the Operations Group in the Planning, Funding and Outcomes Directorate, which supports national and regional teams to monitor performance, manage risk, and ensure the alignment of work programmes with government health priorities.
You will work collaboratively with a wide range of internal stakeholders, including regional teams, the Office of the Chief Executive, and other Health New Zealand business units.
About you
You are a trusted advisor and strategic thinker with extensive experience in performance reporting, monitoring, or organisational performance frameworks.
You bring strong analytical capability, a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex data into clear and actionable insights.
Confident operating at a senior level, you have exceptional communication and relationship management skills and a collaborative, improvement-focused mindset.
You will bring:
* A relevant graduate or post-graduate qualification.
* 5–10 years' experience in a senior advisory role in performance reporting, monitoring, or analytics within a complex organisation.
* Strong experience preparing executive-level reports, briefing papers, and performance insights for senior audiences.
* The ability to analyse performance trends, identify risks, and advise on strategies for improvement.
* Excellent communication and writing skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively.
* Proven experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to advancing equity in health outcomes.
Desirable experience includes coaching and mentoring others in reporting best practice, and developing or refining organisational reporting frameworks or systems.
