The Role
| Te MahiThis research project, based within the Rare Disorder Genetics Lab, will be to identify and analyse novel genetic variants causing developmental disorders.
Variants will be identified through analysis of exome and genome sequencing dataset and investigated using a variety of molecular biology approaches examining consequences to transcripts, proteins and at a cellular level.
At the heart of our research programme are our participants and families, where our main goal is to help find answers for their genetic disorders.
We work closely with clinical and diagnostic genetics in New Zealand and internationally.
You will be coordinating the organisation of both clinical and genetic data, ensuring timely responses to clinician queries, and keeping on top of all the samples and information – together, managing this core aspect of our lab to an excellent standard.
You will also be assisting with research supervision within the wider Bicknell group, therefore a keenness to support others and a can-do attitude will be welcomed!

• A PhD in molecular biology or a related discipline.
• Preferred - demonstrated experience of exome/genome sequencing analysis.
• Organised, methodical, proactive, with excellent attention to detail.
• Experience supervising junior students in the lab.

This is a full-time (1 FTE), fixed-term position for 10 months located in Ōtepoti, Dunedin, with a start date of 1st December 2025.
The salary for this position is $92,350 per annum.
