The opportunity


We have a rare opportunity for an experienced Planner to take their policy and strategic planning expertise to the next level in this engaging and varied role.

Joining our team of experts within the Plans and Places department , as a Policy Planner you’ll drive region-wide resource management policy.

Heading towards plan review time, this role will include plan evaluation and solution finding.

Partnering with a range of internal and external stakeholders, you will support the development of area spatial planning and place-making for specific locations within the region and make and lead the development of public plan changes, managing and reporting on private plan changes variations, notices of requirement and appeals and providing policy advice.

With a strong focus on continuous improvement, you’ll be working within one of the world’s most unique planning authorities and helping us to ensure development within Tāmaki Makaurau provides the best possible outcomes for our environment and our communities.

He kōrero mōu: About you
With a passion for planning policy and strategic planning, you’ll bring with you a degree qualification and preferred experience in planning policy, strategic planning, and resource management.

A robust understanding of the Resource Management Act is preferable.

Prior experience managing and reporting on plan changes (whether urban or rural or in a private or public environment) and notices of requirements will also be highly regarded.

You understand the Council’s responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and have some knowledge of te ao Māori, also a willingness to learn the need for good financial management of planning projects.

As this role might require you to travel around the region using Council vehicles, you’ll ideally hold a valid New Zealand driver’s license.
