Your role in a nutshell

As a Performance Manager , you will oversee the efficient functioning of programmatic and paid social operations, ensuring seamless integration of cutting-edge technology, data-driven insights, and streamlined commercial processes.

This role covers supply-side management, sales pipeline oversight, financial operations, and the facilitation of programmatic strategies tailored to the New Zealand market.

You will work closely with digital teams, agency partners, and clients to deliver scalable and impactful outcomes in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Industry leadership: Work at the forefront of digital innovation within a dynamic and fast-growing market.

  • Professional growth: Leverage cutting-edge tools and platforms, including META, TikTok, The Trade Desk, DV360, and others.

  • Collaborations: Collaborate with publishers, SSPs, and agencies to contribute to data-driven and brand-safe campaigns.

Core Skills Required

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in digital advertising, with a strong focus on programmatic and paid social
  • Advanced understanding of the social and programmatic ecosystem, including Ad Server, DSPs, SSPs, DMPs, and ad verification tools
  • Expertise in planning, activating, and optimising paid social campaigns across key platforms (e.g. Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Snapchat)
  • Experience with campaign management tools, audience segmentation, and data visualisation platforms
  • Proficiency with SaaS platforms and automation tools (e.g. Trade Desk Commerce Connector or similar)
  • Proficiency in financial reporting, data analysis, and advanced Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to present to clients and lead calls as required
  • Team-oriented, collaborative, with a can-do attitude
  • Experience line managing or training others is preferable
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on innovation and operational efficiency
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Adept at working under pressure while maintaining high-quality outputs

In-Depth Focus Areas

  • Product : Execute supply-side strategies using PubMatic, Index Exchange, and Magnite; identify opportunities to improve supply path efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

  • Develop paid social and programmatic plans aligned with client objectives and KPIs; articulate rationale for tactics and present to internal/external stakeholders.

  • End-to-end setup of paid social and programmatic campaigns; utilise advanced features to achieve results; QA checks to ensure best practices.

  • Monitor campaign performance and pacing; troubleshoot and optimise as needed.

  • Produce detailed weekly/monthly performance reports; lead client calls to present results.

  • Write performance commentary with insights and actionable recommendations; ensure consistency across the team.

  • Conduct end-of-campaign analyses, quarterly/annual reviews, and standalone projects.

  • Identify testing/innovation opportunities; secure client backing.

  • Develop testing/learning agendas with line-manager; collaborate with other teams to optimise the marketing mix.

  • Partner with product/tech teams to advance automation and scalability; stay informed on trends in NZ/Australia marketplaces.

Partners

  • Manage supply-side relationships with SSPs, ad networks, and publishers; align with campaign objectives
  • Educate and onboard publishers on software and best practices
  • Collaborate with trading desks and agency partners on SPO strategies
  • Build relationships with Meta, Twitter, Snap, TikTok, Pinterest, and others
  • Act as social point-of-contact for clients
  • Stay informed about media/tech developments and identify opportunities to test and innovate in the social space

Profitability

  • Oversee and optimise the programmatic sales pipeline using tools like Salesforce and Wrike
  • Manage monthly financial processes, including DSP reporting and invoicing
  • Analyse margins and identify improvement opportunities
  • Ensure compliance with agency finance processes; coordinate with junior/offshore teams to minimise finance queries
  • Provide financial and operational insights to inform investment strategies

People

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of programmatic traders and specialists
  • Facilitate effective cross-team communication and collaboration
  • Support workload management and deadlines for junior team members
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders; lead presentations as needed
  • Engage in internal meetings, training, and contribute to a collaborative culture
  • Assist with recruitment and act as an ambassador for the team

Growth & Marketing

  • Be a positive representative of WPP Media at industry events
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to showcase excellent work from within the agency
  • Share relevant and insightful commentary internally
