The Communication and Publishing Department (CPD) is seeking a Multi-Language Supervisor based at the Pacific Area Office in Takapuna, Auckland.
This is a permanent, full-time position reporting to the Area Translation Manager.
The primary objective of this role is to oversee the initiation of new language projects in the Pacific Area, in direct collaboration with linguists at headquarters.
Ideal candidates must have proven experience in team leadership, empathy in conflict resolution, strong attention to detail, and familiarity with linguistics, technology, and operational processes.
Learn and follow processes for initiating new language projects and oversee the development of those languages
Manage onboarding, training, and relationship building with external translation and interpretation providers
Supervise the work of external vendors, providing feedback, leadership, and capability-building support
Oversee translation output of up to 6 languages or approximately 3 million words annually, including direct supervision of team members
Ensure timely and high-quality project completion by managing communications, expectations, and payment processes with external providers
Coordinate sensitive, confidential, and high-profile translation and production projects across multiple languages and regions
Coordinate resolution of human resources, financial, technical, and legal needs related to assigned languages, including recruitment and managing local budgets
Serve as a liaison for cross-functional support, ensuring operational needs are met in collaboration with internal departments
Perform other duties as assigned by the Area Translation Manager, contributing to the overall success of translation initiatives in the Pacific Area
Bachelor's degree (preferably in business, linguistics, translation or a related field) or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience with a high degree of expertise (typically seen in a professional translator with at least 8 years of experience) in translation and skill in writing, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and syntax of one or more non-English languages).
Plus 3 years of experience in project management or a related field.
Mastery of spoken and written English and at least one other language, including vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and syntax.
Proven skills in public speaking, interpersonal communication, team leadership, coaching, time management, project management, problem solving and ability to work under pressure.
Ability to exemplify a compassionate leadership style
Excellent spoken and written English and at least one other language, including vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and syntax
Broad knowledge of countries, history, culture, current events, customs and values in the countries associated with the language being translated
Ability to navigate through translation and business management tools, web interfaces, reading briefs and instructions, including entering data and downloading and uploading files.
Ability to provide basic technical support to translation and business management systems users.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency with operating systems and Office 365 applications.
Knowledge of Church doctrine, policies, and ecclesiastical organization.
Knowledge of word processing, graphic production and language recording best practices.
Familiarity with computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools.
