Our Cyber Security team are the guardians of our Data and Digital environment against the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats! We're here to ensure the safety of Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora.

Our innovative cyber security operating model is designed to tailor the resources needed for boosting our cyber security readiness.

We take care of leadership, management, delivery, and support across the board.

At the heart of our mission is managing risks associated with safeguarding our valuable information from potential threats and vulnerabilities that the health sector might encounter.

By tackling these challenges together, we're addressing information risk head-on.

Mōu | About you

As the National SOC Manager will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the team, processes, and technology necessary to deliver the National SOC and Vulnerability Management services in alignment with Te Whatu Ora's cyber security strategy.

This role entails maintaining an understanding of current international and national security threats and vulnerabilities to the health sector, an advanced understanding of relevant security tools and capabilities, and actively driving team development to effectively utilise those tools to manage cyber risk.

As the National SOC Manager, your expert guidance of the Security Operations Center and Vulnerability Management teams will be instrumental in bolstering Te Whatu Ora's resilience in the face of cybersecurity threats.

You will play a critical role in providing swift and effective prevention, detection and responses to security incidents, thereby minimising disruption and maintaining the integrity of our operational systems.

Your collaborative efforts with the dedicated incident response and coordinated incident management teams will solidify our robust, organization-wide cybersecurity strategy.

Your contributions will fundamentally enhance the resilience and overall cybersecurity posture of Te Whatu Ora.

Preference will be given to applications of significantly affected Kaimahi through the change process.

Ka kawea e koe | You will bring:

  • Experienced in establishing and running IT and security operations teams
  • 10 years minimum experience as senior IT or security practitioner
  • Experience in delivering operational services to support strategic security goals
  • Experience in managing up and down – line management and stakeholder expectations
  • Demonstrable experience in leading and managing technical teams.
  • Technical understanding of the security toolsets relevant to Te Whatu Ora's strategic direction, including but not limited to the Microsoft security ecosystem (and Sentinel specifically), Tenable, Recorded Future and a variety of EDR and firewall solutions.
  • Expert knowledge of cyber security principles and practices.
  • A commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner in all your actions.

    This includes an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the ability to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in this role
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
