Your Title: Mechanical Engineer

Job Location: Brisbane, QLD, AU

Our Department: Trimble Field Systems - Civil Construction

Are you excited about a role where you can design the integration of technology products onto construction machines, working as part of an international design team?

What You Will Do

As a Mechanical Engineer with Trimble Field Systems, you will be supporting our engineering teams in the Civil Construction space, enabling Trimble Earthworks, and other CCFS products, to work on construction machines found locally in the Australian region.

You will work collaboratively with other local support and sales teams in QLD, helping define the needs of the region.

Travel will be a key requirement of this role, between 25% and 50% of your time.

This will involve:

  • Documentation of mechanical systems in the form of solid models, layouts, detail drawings, and bill of materials

  • Produce technical documentation and detailed assembly instructions

  • Perform design verification and mechanical qualification testing

  • Optimize mechanical structures through FEA simulation

  • Complete production release of new product design for product introduction

  • Participate in corrective action plans for mechanical systems

  • Provide technical support and consultation as required

  • Research and analyze data such as design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of design or application

  • Execution and documentation of on-machine tests

  • Troubleshooting complex problems on various controls systems on machines

  • Conducting machine set-ups and tear-downs for a variety of events such as product proof of concept/prototype tests and evaluations,

    As well as possessing excellent attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication, a strong commitment to quality, persistence, inquisitiveness, and the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment as a proven team player, you should be able to bring the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field

  • Demonstrable professional experience as a mechanical engineer relevant to your level

  • 3D CAD modeling package experience is required.

    ProEngineer / Creo experience preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with a global team

  • Experience in Microsoft Excel, Visio, and Google Workspace apps.

  • Reasonable fitness and manual dexterity to work in a machine test environment

  • Ability to self learn and work autonomously

  • Knowledge of CAN, Ethernet, Wifi, and Serial communication protocols

  • Good to have:

    Experience in sheet metal and cable assembly design

    Experience with hydraulic systems

    Experience in operating heavy construction machines

    A basic understanding of control and position system theory of operation

    Construction White Card or equivalent.

    In this role, you can either work remotely from home in the Brisbane area, or from our Trimble Brisbane office, where several other people are based.

    Frequent travel (Up to 50%) across Australia will be required.

    You should therefore be willing and able to travel (a clean driver’s license and a current passport are required).
