Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunityWe are looking for an experienced policy professional to lead our Infrastructure and Stewardship System Policy team.The Infrastructure and Stewardship System Policy Team develops, delivers and influences policy advice to solve issues and make improvements to the land transport system.

The team has a particular focus on policy initiatives to improve the way NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) manages transport infrastructure, support effective and efficient regulatory activity and keep the land transport legislative framework up-to-date and enabling.The team is flexible and dynamic, with a big work programme.

Our people are located across the country, and we operate a 'matrix management' model to support the wider work programme across the System Policy group.In this role you will have the opportunity to lead the development of NZTA positions on the Government's planning and land acquisition law reforms, lead policy development on improvements to the graduated driver licence system and vehicle emissions standards and lead our regulatory stewardship programme.

The breadth of NZTA's role in the land transport system means there are opportunities to be involved in a range of other issues - no two days are the same.The Infrastructure and Stewardship System Policy team is part of the System Policy group.

Our wider work programme includes initiatives to reform land transport rules, enable a range of service and digital modernisation changes, make changes to the way land transport revenue is generated and monitor Police delivery against the Road Policing Investment Programme.To view a copy of the position description click here.Ko koe tēnei | About you We are looking for a strong all-round policy leader with the following skills:
* Deep understanding of machinery of government and decision-making process, including in-depth knowledge and skilful application of the policy process, the legislative process and regulatory frameworks
* Proven experience in leading successful future-focused policy initiatives and programmes that deliver whole-of-system outcomes
* Proven experience in a senior role with a high level of strategic, analytical and conceptual thinking in a complex environment
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in and across an operationally-driven environment
* Ability to translate strategic concepts into priorities, plans and outcomes
* Proven experience in building and leading teams to deliver
* Proven experience in leading, influencing and building credibility across a range of stakeholders
* You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector
