## Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role**Mō te tūnga | About the role**Defence Security (DSy) provides a sustainable and credible security organisation primarily focussed on NZDF's domestic security environment through the provision of a range of protective security policies, services, products and advice.

DSY's purpose is to protect the NZDF from security threats, vulnerabilities and risks that could cause harm to our people, information and capabilities.We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader who demonstrates exceptional critical thinking, interpersonal acumen, and sound judgment.

This is a fast-paced and diverse role that requires a high level of discretion, adaptability, and the ability to navigate complex situations with confidence and professionalism.The role is responsible for all vetting services for the NZDF and providing vetting-related advice, process improvements and inter-agency engagement.

This role has a strong focus on the delivery of vetting services, National Security Clearance management, security incident triage, and security screening to support the protection of NZDF personnel and capabilities from harm.This role is based in Defence House Wellington CBD, and requires regular domestic travel as you will be managing a team based at different NZDF Camps/Bases throughout NZ.Occasional international travel may be required to attend conferences or professional development opportunities.If successful, you can commence in this rewarding role in January 2026.**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience**To be successful in this role you will have:You will have:* Leadership and Team Management – a proven ability to develop a positive team culture, to guide, coach and motivate staff to deliver high-quality vetting outcomes and meet Key Performance Indicators, and to effectively manage caseloads.* Resilience, Adaptability and Professionalism – maintain composure, flexibility, impartiality, and ethical standards under pressure or in challenging situations.* Stakeholder Engagement – a proven ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with customers, colleagues, senior leaders, and partner agencies.* Communication – excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to convey sensitive or complex information clearly and diplomatically.* Policy and Compliance Knowledge – a working knowledge of the New Zealand Government Protective Security Requirements (PSR), particularly as they relate to Personnel Security.* Process Improvement – experience in refining and streamlining processes, implementing quality assurance, and driving efficiency whilst maintaining compliance.* Discretion and Confidentiality – exceptional care in handling sensitive personal information and maintaining privacy standards.Experience in corporate or public sector vetting, security or intelligence would be highly advantageous.**Nōu te rourou | What's in it for you**Your skills and dedication deserve recognition, and NZDF delivers with competitive pay matched to your experience.
