English, Health and physical education, Learning languages, Mathematics and statistics, Science, Social sciences, Technology, Te reo Māori, The arts

At Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura), our ākonga are always at the centre of what we do.

For more than a century, we’ve supported learners across Aotearoa — evolving from lessons once delivered on horseback to today’s future focused learning that can be done anywhere, anytime.

The Leaving to Learn programme is designed to give ākonga meaningful, hands‑on experiences that connect academic learning with real‑world application.

We're looking for a Kaiako who is eager to bring curriculum to life through partnerships, opportunities and experiences.

In this role, you will work with ākonga, whānau and kaimahi to explore, reflect, and grow in unique and engaging environments.

Key responsibilities:

  • Look after the following portfolios: Iti Rearea | Te Kura Representatives, Leaving to Learn Competitions, He Whai Taumaru teina – Leaving to Learn Y0-10, Whai Wāhi Hākinakina | Kiwisport and waka experiences, Ngā Amorangi | Ākonga Leadership and voices.

  • Design and facilitate with key groups of kaimahi in connecting learning experiences that align with curriculum goals.

  • Contribute towards the local team environment and development of Leaving to Learn.

This is a unique opportunity to join a programme that equips ākonga with the skills and confidence to thrive beyond school.

If you're ready to inspire ākonga in a new way, we'd love to hear from you.

It is expected that the successful appointee will be:

  • New Zealand teacher registration and a current practising certificate.

  • Passionate about ākonga-centred learning and experiences.

  • Skilled in building and maintaining community connections across and within teams.
