About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team.

This is a dynamic role, working within our early childhood education centre.

Are you someone who takes pride in creating a calm, welcoming space where everything feels just right?

We're looking for a Nest Maker—the heart of the home—who brings comfort and care through everyday routines.

This role involves preparing nourishing meals, keeping the kitchen tidy, and staying on top of laundry to ensure a smooth and harmonious environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a nutritious balanced diet throughout the day, for each child attending the centre (including catering to different dietary requirements).

  • Prepare food and maintain the kitchen, ensuring a high standard of food safety practices, and strict time management.

  • Provide parents/whānau and children the opportunity to be informed and involved in all decisions concerning the children's nutrition.

  • Build and maintain positive, warm, and responsive relationships with the team, tamariki and whānau.

  • Understand and meet all required regulations (food safety, Ministry of Education food requirements, council registered kitchen requirements) and abide by Salvation Army policies and procedures.

  • Maintain laundry with support from staff and as per procedures to support the rhythm of the centre through thoughtful attention to detail and consistency.

  • Dining room is cleaned (swept & mopped) after lunch.

  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen space.

Ideal Candidate

  • Have experience cooking in a fast paced environment.

  • Be comfortable, confident and safe working with children – a full Children’s Worker safety check will be required for this role, including a police vet.

  • Have excellent time management skills, to prioritize multiple tasks and meet timing needs of tamariki.

  • Great communication skills.

  • Ability to work well within a team.

  • Certificate in food handling is preferred, but training can be provided for the right applicant.

  • Create a welcoming and nurturing environment within the heart of the centre.

Employment Details

  • Type: Permanent part-time.

  • Hours: 30 hours per week, rostered from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

  • Starting hourly rate: $28.95 to $29.25.
