About the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC)
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is the heart of Aotearoa New Zealand's cyber defence.
We fulfil the cyber security responsibilities of the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, to detect and disrupt high-impact cyber threats nationally.
About the Role
You will design, build, and manage our enterprise network, cloud, and Linux platforms.
As the subject‑matter expert for Computer Network Defence (CND), you will:
* Strengthen GCSB's capability to detect, disrupt, and deter sophisticated cyber threats.
* Work alongside a high‑performing team of CND Systems Engineers on mission‑critical projects.
* Mentor junior engineers and champion automation and best‑practice adoption.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, build, and operate enterprise networks (LAN, WAN, SD‑WAN)
* Lead automation initiatives using IaC, CI/CD pipelines, and containerisation
* Coach and mentor engineers across the team
* Stakeholder & relationship management with internal and external partners
* Apply frameworks such as TOGAF, ITIL, NZISM, and SDLC to all projects
What we value
* 3+ years designing, implementing, and managing enterprise network infrastructure (Level 2 practitioner).
* Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) or equivalent certification/experience.
* Hands‑on experience with Linux servers and cloud platforms.
* Proven use of DevOps/GitOps tools: Git, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform, Ansible, etc.).
* Ability to coach and mentor engineers and promote a collaborative culture.
* Knowledge of industry frameworks - TOGAF, SDLC, ITIL, NZISM - applied to network solutions.
* Strong relationship‑building and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
* You thrive in complex environments, are proactive, and enjoy turning challenges into secure, automated solutions.

Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.
You must:
* Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
* Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
* Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
