Healthcare Assistant - He Whare Korowai (Home from Home)
Hospice West Auckland supports patients, their whanau and carers, healthcare professionals and community providers with specialist palliative health and social support services.
Our dedicated, experienced team of health and social care professionals offer practical, physical, emotional and spiritual support to patients and whanau, wherever they call home.
As an extension to our Korowai Care service, Hospice West Auckland is establishing a 24/7 'home from home' service called He Whare Korowai.
This will enable short-term 24-hour care for patients, in a homely environment for approximately 4 -7 days, based at Hospice House in Te Atatu Peninsula.

About the Role
You will be part of a team of registered nurses and healthcare assistants working onsite at Hospice House to provide hands-on care for patients and their whanau.
We have several permanent positions ranging between ******* hours per week and you will be part of a 24-hour roster, including weekends.
You will provide patient care and support, and advice to carers on how to provide personal care, under the guidance of a registered nurse.
You will be supported by specialist clinicians and the wider interdisciplinary team to help develop your skills in palliative care.
You will have the opportunity to work with the diverse people of our community, enabling you to build relationships and to contribute compassionately to their wellbeing - Pokohiwi Ki Te Pokohiwi (shoulder to shoulder).
The estimated start date for this position is mid-October ****.
Skills and Experience Required
At least 2 years previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant in a care facility, hospital or residential home, providing palliative care or rehabilitation support.
A NZ Certificate in Health & Wellbeing – Level 3 or 4.
Availability to work across a 24/7 roster including weekends.
The availability to work additional shifts if required, would be an advantage.
A full clean NZ driver's licence and the right to work permanently in New Zealand
An interest in growing your skills in adult palliative care.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills, problem solving and the ability to work unsupervised.
A confident user of technology – Microsoft Applications and Zoom technology would be an advantage.
The maturity to handle challenging situations with common sense and compassion.
