Toi Ohomai is seeking a Head of International to champion the international ākonga experience.

This pivotal role will lead the development of global partnerships, culturally responsive support services, and innovative strategies that enhance recruitment, retention, and success of international students.

You’ll play a key part in shaping our global reputation while upholding the integrity and excellence of New Zealand’s vocational education.

Strategy, Planning and Engagement is a foundational enabling and engaging function at Toi Ohomai, driving strategic alignment, organisational performance, and meaningful engagement across our organisation and communities.

This directorate brings together international education, brand and engagement, quality and risk, and strategic planning and insights into a cohesive, team directorate focused on long-term sustainable success.

Working collaboratively across Toi Ohomai, with a strong emphasis on data-informed decision-making, continuous improvement, and proactive strategy and planning, it supports transparency, accountability, and responsiveness to change.

Through integrated approaches to global engagement, brand visibility, governance, and performance monitoring, the directorate plays a vital role in shaping the direction of Toi Ohomai and ensuring our services reflect the needs of ākonga, kaimahi, and stakeholders.

  • Lead and implement strategies to grow international student markets and enhance learner success.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with international agents, partners, and stakeholders.

  • Ensure compliance with immigration and education regulations, including the Pastoral Care Code.
  • Work in collaboration with other leaders at Toi Ohomai championing the voice of international ākonga in institutional planning and decision-making.

  • Represent Toi Ohomai at international forums and delegations.
  • You bring:

  • A postgraduate qualification in Business or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Proven success in leading international education growth, ideally in the ITP sector.

  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand’s export education priorities and global tertiary education markets.

  • Experience in cross-cultural negotiations, international marketing and business development.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, and Māori success.

  • Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology is a vocational education provider in the Bay of Plenty and South Waikato.
