Job description

  • This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week.

    The remuneration range for this role is $118,918 to $167,885 (including KiwiSaver) depending on skills and experience.

    The opportunity

    We are seeking a highly motivated and engaging Head of Commercial and Procurement to deliver an effective commercial function that supports our work programme.

    This is a hands on, busy and varied role that will see you not only leading and developing one direct report but also using your strategic nous as you own the commercial framework and oversight of the service delivery strategy whilst providing effective commercial contract and procurement advice to our business.

    In this role you'll also:

  • Ensure effective commercial strategies, policies and processes are in place
  • Participate as a tender Board member and advisor
  • Manage or assist with all significant commercial contract negotiations
  • Oversee the development of Council long-term plan operating expenditure budgets
  • Review market cost rates and compare cost rates across the contractor and consultancy panels
  • About you

    To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of procurement, commercial management and financial accounting principles and practices
  • Significant experience in the delivery of business and financial advice to managers
  • Prior experience leading a team including strong coaching and mentoring skills
  • Excellent relationship and influencing skills including presenting and facilitating discussions at a senior level
  • A degree in a relevant field

    We are 100 per cent council owned and funded by Wellington City, Hutt City, Porirua City, and Upper Hutt City councils, Greater Wellington Regional Council and South Wairarapa District Council.

    Our councils own the water infrastructure in the region, and they task us to manage the infrastructure and deliver water services to their communities.

    Our job is to provide safe and healthy drinking water, collect and treat wastewater, and ensure the stormwater network is well managed.

    We do this on behalf of our council owners.
