About the BusinessUnit:
The TechnologyGroup is responsible for maintaining the comprehensive network of hardware andsoftware required to maintain safe skies across Airways airspace.

Thisincludes an array of surveillance, communications and navigation systemslocated across the country and the hardware and software used every day by airtraffic controllers to stay connected to pilots and each other.


The TechnologyGroup is also responsible for working alongside the ATS group to develop thenecessary technologies to support the future aviation industry, as well asproviding day to day and future focused technology support to the widerbusiness.

About theTeam:
The Communications, Navigationaland Surveillance (CNS) team provide national design, installation through tocommissioning and escalated support functions.


Communications systems includeVoice Switches, Recorders, Radio Links, HF/VHF Radios, VSATs, Telephony andAerodrome Communications infrastructure.

Navigation systems include groundbased Non-Directional Beacons, Distance Measuring Equipment, Instrument LandingSystems, VHF Omnidirectional and Ranging Systems and space based GNSS andfuture Satellite Based Augmentation Systems.


Surveillance Systems includePrimary and Secondary Surveillance Systems, Multi-lateration Systems, AutomaticDependent Surveillance Broadcast Systems, Drone Detection Systems and RemoteCamera Surveillance.

Other technologies managed by the team are NationalSupervision Control and Data Acquisition, NTP Clocks and AerodromeMeteorological systems.

About the Role:
We have a permanent full-timeopportunity for a Communications, Surveillance and Navigation (CNS) SystemsEngineer to join us at our Christchurch based campus.

Reporting to the Systems Manager, thefocus of the role is to take a lifecycle approach to system engineering fromrequirements, design, planning, installation and commissioning.

Additionally, youll provide advice and escalatedsupport using a safety by design systems methodology to our criticalaeronautical communications, navigation and surveillance assets used by AirwaysNew Zealand and our overseas clients.

About You:
This role is well suited to someonewith a genuine passion for aviation, transport or the technology industry.


To be successful, you will hold:

  • Auniversity qualification in a technology field, Washington Accord specialising inRadio Communication and Electronics preferred.
  • Five (5) plusyears experience in systems design, systems engineering andmaintenance/operations practices as well as supplier/vendor management.

  • Provensuccess with designing and delivering complex solutions on time and to budgetwith quality outcomes.
  • A goodunderstanding of a wide range of technologies, and capable of understanding notonly how the technology functions, but how it is used and where it fits intothe business.

  • Efficientuser of MS Office 365, analytical tools for radio coverage (ATDI); surveillanceanalysis (SASS-C); reliability (Reliasoft + Reliability Centred Maintenance(SAE 1011 and 1012)).
  • Strongradio frequency (RF) knowledge, monitoring architecture, supportinginfrastructure/managing civil contractors, systems of systems/integration,space-based technologies.
  • Fundamentalnetworking (TCP/IP, Multicast, SNMP, LINUX, PC/Servers - Virtualisation,VMWare), python coding and systems security knowledge.
  • Confidenceneeded to interact with both internal and external customers.

  • Eligibilityand willingness to work towards becoming a Certified Professional Engineer.
  • Motivationto learn and seek out the information needed to deliver at the highest qualityand standard.
