About the role

We’re looking for a Graduate Asset Inspection Engineer to join our Inspection Solutions team within the DNS Division.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply your engineering knowledge in the field while developing a unique technical skillset in Thermal Infrared (IR) inspection services for power distribution and transmission networks.

Based in Auckland, you’ll work closely with our Acoustic Inspection Engineers and Drone Asset Inspection Engineers to plan and deliver inspection projects for our customers.

From data capture and photo analysis to reporting and defect identification, you’ll play a key role in maintaining the safety and reliability of critical infrastructure.

You’ll travel across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thermal infrared (IR) inspections on overhead power distribution and transmission assets.

  • Analyse imagery and inspection data to identify defects and performance issues.

  • Support planning, scheduling, and delivery of inspection projects in collaboration with other engineers.

  • Prepare clear, professional reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ensure all equipment and PPE are maintained, tested, and compliant.

  • Promote and maintain Northpower’s strong health, safety, quality, and environmental culture.

  • Travel to customer sites across New Zealand and occasionally internationally.

About you

  • Currently in your final or penultimate year of an Engineering degree (Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronics preferred).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • A team player who’s confident working independently.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.

  • Full, clean driver’s licence.

  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively.
