Faculty Member Teaching Track (Engineering Product Development)

Job description

Job Description

The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is a young and innovative university with a unique educational structure and a mission to create a better world by design.

Established in 2009 as Singapore’s fourth public university, in collaboration with MIT and Zhejiang University, SUTD is recognised for its innovative, active-based learning pedagogy and an interdisciplinary pillar organisation.

With a stellar faculty, a small student-to-faculty ratio, and a beautiful campus, SUTD aims to nurture future technological leaders in engineering and architecture.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Teach electrical and electronic engineering design and product development at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels.

This could include fundamental circuit design, analog/digital electronics, embedded systems, power systems, control systems, prototyping, and testing.

  • Develop and deliver high-quality, student-centered courses using active- and blended-learning pedagogies, with particular emphasis on electronic circuit design, product innovation, and systems-level electrical engineering.

  • Engage in curricular development and continuous education to incorporate emerging trends in electrical engineering (e.g., renewable energy and power electronics, microcontrollers and IoT, signal processing, AI-driven circuit/system optimisation, sustainable energy systems).

  • Collaborate with colleagues in interdisciplinary projects and research endeavours, contributing electrical engineering expertise to solve complex technological and societal challenges.

  • Mentor and supervise students at all levels (Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral) on design projects and research, fostering innovation, hands-on learning, and industry relevance.

  • Drive outreach and partnerships with industry, funding agencies, and other academic institutions to expand SUTD’s electrical engineering initiatives, secure research funding, and develop continuous learning programmes.

Becoming part of SUTD

If you have a passion for teaching, a drive to advance electrical and electronic engineering research, and a desire to shape future leaders in technology and innovation, you will find a supportive environment at SUTD.

You will work alongside faculty from diverse backgrounds to collaborate on curriculum and research in circuits, electronics, power systems, embedded systems, and allied areas.

Whether you are just beginning your career or looking to further develop your academic profile, SUTD provides a vibrant platform to leave your mark on electrical and electronic engineering education and research – especially in areas aligned with SUTD’s strategic growth domains (Sustainability, Smart Cities, Aviation, Healthcare, and AI).

The minimal qualifications for the faculty position include

  • PhD in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or a closely related field), with a proven record of teaching and/or research in areas such as circuit design, electronics, embedded systems, power systems, signal processing, or related electrical topics.

Relevant industry experience in these domains will also be considered.

  • An appetite for improving the teaching and learning of design processes in the context of electrical and electronic product development, including hardware, systems integration, and emerging applications.

  • A willingness to tackle complex problems in electrical/electronic engineering and design research, potentially spanning across multiple application disciplines such as energy, communications, automation, or robotics.

  • The ability to interact effectively both face-to-face and virtually with students, peers, and all relevant stakeholders.

  • The drive to network and engage with funding agencies, industry partners, and professional bodies, and to create impactful collaborations and continuous learning programmes.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • For the Senior Lecturer position, prior teaching experience is required, with preference for candidates who have experience in technology-enabled learning, blended or active pedagogies, and/or prior involvement in engineering education research.

The candidate can have

  • Experience in teaching in other educational environments, such as executive education and/or lifelong learning.

  • Experience in designing and delivering short, medium and semester-long courses in various electrical and electronics topics.

  • A track record of advising Doctoral, Master, and undergraduate students in electrical or electronics engineering.

  • Publications in electrical and electronics engineering journals (e.g., IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems, IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, IET Power Electronics, and similar) and conferences (e.g., IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems (PEDS), IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems (ICECS), European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE), and similar).

Requirements

  • Please submit your full application package which should include:
  • Statement of interest / Cover letter
  • Teaching statement and prior teaching experience
  • Past student feedback, if applicable
  • Research statement (prior research)
  • Full resume with profile and publication list
  • Sample of published works
  • Contact information of 3 referees

The review of applications will start in October 2025 (rolling basis) and shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview.

If successful, the shortlisted candidate is expected to join in March 2026.
