He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
We're looking for an Environmental Scientist to join our Environmental Care team within Operations.
In this role, you'll help manage Watercare's environmental compliance commitments and contribute your scientific expertise to protect and enhance the environments in which we operate.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Managing resource consent compliance for dams, treatment plants, and network assets.
- Coordinating environmental monitoring programmes and producing regulatory reports.
- Investigating and resolving non‑compliances, including developing practical mitigation measures.
- Supporting environmental incident response and ensuring timely reporting.
- Providing scientific advice across the business to improve environmental performance.
- Contributing to environmental data management, trend analysis, and ISO 14001 quality systems.
- Supporting environmental enhancement and improvement initiatives across Watercare.
About you
We're looking for someone who is analytical, collaborative, and passionate about environmental science.
The Successful Candidate Will Also Bring
- A Bachelor (Honours) degree or higher in Environmental Science or a related discipline.
- At least three years' experience in environmental science or management.
- Strong organisational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Confidence communicating with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with environmental data analysis.
Other Desirable Experience Includes
- Experience within the water or wastewater industry and compliance.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
