Join our team as an Environmental Monitoring Officer, where you'll play a vital role in safeguarding our region's natural resources.In this role you will undertake compliance monitoring of resource consents and permitted activities, with a strong focus on earthworks and land disturbance.
From attending pre-construction site meetings to conducting inspections, collecting samples, and enforcing regulations, your work will directly influence the health and sustainability of our landscapes.You'll respond to environmental incidents, investigate potential breaches, and be part of our 24/7 Environmental Hotline roster, ensuring swift action when it matters most.
As a warranted enforcement officer under the Resource Management Act ****, you'll also carry out enforcement actions.
If you're ready to make a tangible impact and thrive in a role that blends fieldwork, investigation, and environmental stewardship, we'd love to hear from you.About youWe are looking for someone who can bring the following skills, knowledge, personal qualities and experience to our diverse team:Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrate proven expertise through at least five years of experience in a related role.A solid understanding of earthworks and sediment control.Background in compliance would be an advantage.Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.Confidence to represent Council in public forums and working groups.Strong interpersonal skills are crucial, particularly the ability to manage assertive or dissatisfied individuals with professionalism and composure.The role demands resilience under pressure, discretion when handling sensitive or controversial information, and the capability to interpret legislation and regional plans accurately.Displays cultural empathy and awareness.Candidates must also be comfortable with enforcement situations.Current full driver's licence.We understand that sometimes the right person doesn't 'tick all the boxes'.
