Urgent! Domain Lead (Level Two) - Technology Architecture (Fixed-Term) Job Opening In Wellington – Now Hiring New Zealand Government

Domain Lead (Level Two) Technology Architecture (Fixed Term)

Job description

Domain Lead (Level two) - Technology Architecture (Fixed-term) at Inland Revenue Te Tari Taake, Multiple Locations
Key leadership role in the Strategic Architecture group.
Lead a team of Solution, Integration, Digital and Security Architects.
Six months fixed-term, full-time role - all Inland Revenue locations considered, Wellington preferred.
Mo te tunga - About the role
You will lead a specialist team providing strategic and Enterprise level technology architectural services to ensure design initiatives delivered to IR's strategic direction.
As the leader responsible for a team of Solution, Integration, Digital and Security Architects, you will work collaboratively with your peers and colleagues to shape the technology architecture for IR.
It should be noted that this is a strategic forward-looking role that needs to be able to understand and get into the detail if required.
Note the difference between Technology and Technical.
This is not a technical architect role.
In this varied role you will:
contribute technology architecture expertise when designing solutions across all of IR
provide technology design advice to Senior leadership, Policy and Government on how to effectively and effectively meet objectives
apply your expert understanding of industry and external trends to an IR context
explore and recommend technology solution options and approaches
use your proven industry knowledge to propose and design solutions that are beneficial to all parties in the broader ecosystem
liaise with relevant stakeholders and vendors to build and maintain relevant technology roadmaps.
You will interact comfortably with cross-functional teams and build strong working relationships with customers/partners to ensure all solution designs are coherent in an end-to-end context.
You will lead design conversations using your influencing skills and operate confidently at an executive level.
The innovative use of technology, both new and existing, has the ability to drive and influence the strategic direction of IR moving forward.
This role will be at the forefront of this.
You will find the balance between developing the technology strategy and roadmaps that are relevant to where IR is heading as an organisation and ensuring all technology solutions being implemented are in line with and deliver to this strategic intent.
This will include:
having or attaining a deep understanding of IR's primary services - what does IR do, and why do we do it
ensuring that technology architecture expertise is provided when designing and implementing solutions across all of IR
having a thorough understanding of industry and external technology trends and being able to apply this to an IR context
exploring and recommending technology solution options and approaches
supporting and developing a small team of architects.
This includes ensuring the right mix of skills and capability exist to support the constant evolution of the IR technology landscape
assessing impacts and outcomes across initiatives ranging from strategic to operational activities
guiding change activities, including supporting your team who may be more involved in individual delivery initiatives.
As you lead and manage your small team within their specialist domain, you will need to have:
expertise in developing technology strategies and roadmaps for a medium to large sized organisation
a broad knowledge of technology trends and solutions with the ability to identify their relevance to IR and balance this with the practical realities of how they can be implemented.
This role is not about developing theoretical roadmaps that have little chance of being implemented or have little real benefit to IR
the ability to make tough decisions while at the same time being comfortable in admitting 'I don't know' when it's appropriate
a knack for problem solving while also enabling others to find solutions to problems
the ability to lead through influence based on your expert knowledge of technology and what is best for IR
the ability to be an independent self-starter that can chart their own course.
