Korero mo te turanga - About the role
You'll join the Positioning Platform team at Toitu Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand, where you'll combine cloud infrastructure, automation, and software engineering to help power New Zealand's world-class geodetic system.
This isn't theoretical learning, you'll be modernising the infrastructure behind the GeoMarks API, a critical component that connects our geodetic databases to real-world applications.
You'll work with AWS CDK, build CI/CD pipelines, and apply DevOps best practices while being mentored by an experienced team who want to see you succeed.
Specific deliverables expected by end of internship
* Transform legacy infrastructure into modern Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK for the GeoMarks API
* Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines that automate deployment workflows
* Apply critical thinking to evaluate what worked, what didn't, and propose future improvements
* Collaborate with mentors and cross-functional teams on real production systems
* Directly contribute to the technology that powers New Zealand's survey control and geodetic systems

* Currently studying Software Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or a related field
* Solid knowledge of modern JavaScript, especially TypeScript
* Hands-on experience with cloud computing services (AWS preferred, but any cloud counts)
* Comfortable with Git and version control workflows
* Eager to learn, open to feedback, and ready to level up your skills
* Strong communicator who thrives in collaborative team environments
Desirable
* Python or Bash scripting experience
* Genuine interest in geospatial domains (Geodesy, GIS, Surveying)—or curiosity to learn
* Passion for infrastructure automation and making systems run smoothly
