    We're on a mission to deliver smart, sustainable growth for our city - and your engineering expertise will be at the heart of it.

    As a Development Engineer in our Planning, Environment & Sustainability group, you'll help ensure subdivision and development works meet technical and environmental standards, supporting safe, high-quality outcomes for the community.


    You'll assess resource consent and engineering approval applications, provide technical feedback and approvals, and carry out inspections to ensure works are completed to required standards.

    Working closely with developers, Wellington Water, and internal teams, you'll contribute to building a more connected, resilient and environmentally responsible city.


    You will:


  • Assess resource consent and engineering approval applications and provide technical input, direction and approvals
  • Undertake site inspections and ensure works meet the necessary standards
  • Collaborate with Wellington Water, contractors, and Council teams to achieve positive outcomes
  • Contribute to developing best-practice guidance and process improvements
  • Support continuous improvement, innovation, and efficiency within the team
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and deliver excellent customer service
  • About You


    You're a motivated and collaborative engineer who takes pride in helping shape a growing city.

    You combine sound technical knowledge with great communication skills and a passion for practical problem-solving.


    You will have:


  • A recognised tertiary qualification in civil engineering or a related field
  • Understanding of resource consent, engineering approval, and section 223/224c approval processes
  • Knowledge of technical engineering practices for subdivisions and three waters connections
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present technical concepts clearly
  • A current driver's licence
