Marlborough District Council is seeking an experienced Development Engineer to join the team and play a key role in shaping the future of the region’s development.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply your technical expertise and leadership skills to projects that directly support Marlborough’s growth and liveability.


About the Role


As the Development Engineer, you will be responsible for:


  • Providing technical advice and engineering expertise to developers, consultants, contractors, and internal Council teams.
  • Planning, designing, and managing the implementation of 3 Waters infrastructure to support land development.
  • Leading and mentoring a team of direct reports, offering guidance and support for their day-to-day operations.
  • Working collaboratively across Council, including with the Resource Management and Projects & Development teams, to ensure development projects align with community and Council objectives.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with a range of stakeholders including developers, consultants, contractors, and internal departments.
  • Ensuring project budgets, timelines, and resources are effectively managed.

About You


To succeed in this role, you will bring:


  • A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering.
  • At least 8 years’ experience in 3 Waters and land development projects.
  • Strong commercial acumen with proven project management experience.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Leadership capability, with experience managing and mentoring staff
