About the Role
Paragon Recruitment are seeking a talented and detail-driven Design Engineer to join a respected New Zealand energy and infrastructure services provider.
In this key technical position, you’ll be responsible for designing and delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective electricity distribution and network solutions.
Your work will span from subdivision reticulation and customer connections to major infrastructure upgrades and renewable integration projects.
You’ll collaborate with project managers, field services, and clients to ensure all designs meet regulatory standards, technical requirements, and customer expectations — while supporting New Zealand’s transition to a smarter, more resilient energy network.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and produce detailed designs, drawings, and specifications for LV and HV network infrastructure
- Prepare cost estimates, project documentation, and design reports
- Conduct site visits, surveys, and feasibility assessments for customer connections and network extensions
- Ensure all designs comply with network codes, safety standards, and engineering best practice
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal delivery teams to ensure seamless project execution
- Support continuous improvement in design processes, technology adoption, and asset optimisation
- Contribute to the development of sustainable and future-focused network solutions
What You’ll Bring
- A degree or diploma in Electrical / Power Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 2–5 years’ experience in distribution network or infrastructure design
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, GIS, and design or modelling tools (e.g. PowerFactory, CYMCAP, or similar)
- Strong understanding of distribution design standards, NZ electrical codes, and safety regulations
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Commitment to quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement
- A collaborative approach with a focus on customer outcomes and operational efficiency
