About the Role
As a Database Engineer, you'll be part of the Application Databases Team within the Digital Enablers & Integration Portfolio in our Digital Applications & Products directorate.

This team plays a vital role in supporting the digital backbone of our health services, managing more than 15,000 application databases across Aotearoa New Zealand that underpin critical hospital, corporate, and consumer systems.

You'll work alongside a talented group of Database Engineers and Senior Database Engineers to design, build, operate, and maintain a wide range of database solutions.

This role focuses on delivering high-quality technical support, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring our systems remain secure, stable, and compliant with national standards.
About the Team
You'll be joining a passionate and collaborative Application Databases Team within the Digital Enablers & Integration Portfolio, part of our Digital Applications & Products directorate.

Our team of Database Engineers and Senior Database Engineers plays a key role in supporting the databases that keep hospital systems, corporate applications, and digital health services running smoothly across Aotearoa New Zealand.

You'll be surrounded by skilled professionals who are always willing to help, share expertise, and find smarter ways to deliver reliable and secure database services that make a real impact on healthcare across the country.
About you
You're a proactive and detail-oriented Database Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and ensuring systems run at their best.

You bring hands-on experience with database administration, configuration, and support, ideally across one or more core database platforms.

You thrive in a collaborative environment, enjoy sharing knowledge, and take pride in delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality solutions that make a real difference.
* ICT / Technology professional with at least 3 years of experience in deploying, configuring, and maintaining digital or IT services with a breadth of knowledge across a range of IT areas (e.g. service delivery, operations, design & architecture, requirements gathering, customer engagement and the optimisation and improvement of complex IT environments)
* Expertise in at least one of our core database server platforms.

and preferably at least one other database server platform.
* Minimum 3 years of experience in providing day-to-day technical support for end-users and/or IT systems ensuring service availability, stability, and compliance with technical standards.
* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other relevant qualification, or equivalency in a related field is preferred.
* Post graduate certificates in database technologies is required.
