The Role

We’re looking for a talented Data Engineer to join Sky and help shape the future of our data capability.

You’ll be part of a passionate Data Engineering team, responsible for enhancing and supporting our Snowflake data platform.

This hands-on technical role focuses on building and optimising data pipelines, managing platform performance, and enabling scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions that power decision-making across the business.

Reporting to the Manager – Analytics & BI, you’ll work closely with the wider Data & Business Intelligence team to deliver our data roadmap, ensuring quality, reliability, and automation are at the heart of everything we do.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and maintaining Snowflake performance, security, and cost optimisation.

  • Designing, building, and maintaining scalable and reliable data ingestion pipelines.

  • Integrating data from diverse sources using ETL/ELT frameworks.

  • Building CI/CD pipelines and implementing infrastructure-as-code.

  • Collaborating across teams to ensure data quality, governance, and continuous improvement.

What you will bring (Ngā Pūkenga me Ngā Wheako)

You’ll bring proven experience in building and maintaining data platforms, with strong technical skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.

You’ll be passionate about leveraging modern data tools and practices to deliver secure, high-quality, and future-ready data solutions.

Essential

  • 5+ years’ experience in databases, data engineering tools, and analysis.

  • Proficiency in Snowflake, AWS, and ETL tools such as NiFi.
  • Strong skills in SQL and modern programming languages such as Python.

  • Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field.

  • Experience working across a modern data stack, particularly combining Snowflake, AWS, NiFi, and dbt in integrated workflows.

  • Background in subscriber-based or high-volume data environments.
