As a Regional Council we are responsible for flood protection, public transport, civil defence, and more.

About the Role

As a Cyber Security Analyst, you’ll safeguard Environment Canterbury’s digital technology assets by monitoring, analysing, and responding to cyber threats.

You’ll implement security frameworks, maintain compliance, and promote cyber awareness across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Investigating and responding to security alerts and incidents
  • Performing vulnerability assessments and recommending remediation
  • Supporting penetration tests and audits to validate security controls
  • Collaborating with internal teams to embed security‑by‑design principles
  • Delivering cyber security awareness training and guidance
  • Monitoring and responding to cyber threats across the organisation

Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in IT, Cyber Security, or related field
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, CompTIA Security+)
  • At least 2 years’ experience in cyber security roles and 3 years in IT operations
  • Hands‑on experience with SIEM tools, firewalls, endpoint security, and cloud platforms
  • Experience with Microsoft’s cybersecurity suite (e.g., Defender, Sentinel) and cloud platforms like Azure (preferred)
  • Knowledge of frameworks such as NZISM, ISO 27001, and NIST

Hours of work – Permanent full‑time position, 40 hours per week.

The role may require work outside normal hours for emergency, flood response, and representation at meetings and events.

Location – This position is predominantly based at 200 Tuam Street, Christchurch.

Salary – The indicative salary range for the role is $74,306 to $91,790 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

Specific salary will be discussed at interview stage.
