Wellington Regional Hospital is one of the newest hospitals in New Zealand and one of 5 tertiary level teaching hospitals in the country.

It is a state of the art facility with innovative models of care.

The Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Management, Te Whatu Ora – Capital,Coast and Hutt Valley is seeking applications from Specialist Anaesthetists fora fixed-term vacancy we currently have available.

Clinical work will encompassanaesthesia for a wide range of surgical specialties, preoperative assessmentof patients, involvement in acute postoperative pain management, andparticipation in an on-call roster.

A challenging, tertiary level, case-mix isoffered but can be tailored to the individuals past experience and areas ofinterest.

Te Whatu Ora – Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley hospitals includeWellington Regional Hospital (servicing a tertiary population of 900,000), KenepuruHospital (a secondary level community hospital) and Hutt Hospital (a secondarylevel community hospital).

Wellington has a total of 19 operating theatreswhile Hutt Hospital is the tertiary centre for regional plastics, burns andoral maxillofacial services and has a suite of 8 operating rooms undergoingprocedures in General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Gynaecology, Dental, Plastics,reconstruction and OMF.

The department provides anaesthesia for all surgical specialtieswith the exception of plastic surgery, paediatric cardiac surgery, and Heartand Lung Transplant Surgery.

The department has an active education programme that includesAustralian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists fellowship training for 20trainees, continuing education for specialists and participation in an on-site,high-fidelity simulation training suite (The Wellington Regional Centre forSimulation and Skills Education).

The research and education centre providesopportunity to pursue research interests.

  • Vocationally registered in Anaesthesia with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FANZCA or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training
