Community Support Worker - ResidentialFull-Time - 40 hours per week$*****-$*****Titahi Bay location We currently have roles with our children's respite house at Spectrum Care covering early mornings, after school, evenings and weekends.
We're looking for team members to help kids and teenagers with intellectual disabilities to feel safe and have fun while staying at our respite house inTitahi Bay.
You will need to know how to liven things up, and calm things down, to notice how children are feeling, and to provide them with guidance, comfort or support as needed.
You will need to be vigilant, warm, and creative.
Additionally, as the children have a vast range of communication styles, an ability or interest in learning to find effective ways to communicate is very much preferred.Skills & Experience *Empathy for the challenges of trying to build an ordinary life while living with a disabilityEnergy to keep up with someone who likes to be on the go a lotAbility to remain calm, and calming, in all situationsResilience to help people keep boundaries to ensure their safetyGood at explaining and negotiatingAbility to communicate effectively and supportively with family, colleagues and the person you supportAbility and willingness to provide support and motivation with personal cares and daily living skillsThe Ideal Candidate Will HaveExcellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English is a pre-requisite to be considered for this roleAble to pass a NZ police checkExperience supporting people with disabilities, and or mental health issues, and/or behaviours that can be challenging is desirable but not necessaryReliability, commitment, and passion for working with peopleA full New Zealand driver's licenceAn interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification- we can support you to achieve this while you workThe ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and emailWhat You'll Get From UsA supportive and collaborative work environmentDevelopment opportunities and continuing education - we provide support to obtain NZQA Level 2, 3 and 4 Health and Wellbeing qualificationsThe opportunity to support people with disabilities to live great lives!
RequirementsIf you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet the following INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:at least 3 years of relevant work experience, ora relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.If you are interested in supporting children and young people to develop self-confidence and independence, and live their lives of choice, lives like any other, in their own communities, then we want to hear from you today!
