We are looking for another team member to join our family at Birkdale House.
We have 6 residents between the ages of ******, in wheelchairs with physical and intellectual disabilities.
This is a large house and the residents are generally very calm with high needs relating to feeding, bathing, toileting and supporting activities.
The staff are long term support workers who prepare the most beautiful meals for the people they support.
They have a sprawling, sunny deck where they often enjoy BBQs on balmy summer days.ResponsibilitiesProvide support to adults with disabilities to help them lead an ordinary life and participate in daily activitiesAssist with activities of daily living, including feeding, bathing, toileting and mobility as neededSupport residents with meal preparation or supervision as appropriateSupport residents to engage in activities and maintain routines in a calm, respectful mannerSkills & ExperienceEmpathy for the challenges of trying to build an ordinary life while living with a disabilityEnergy to keep up with someone who likes to be on the goAbility to remain calm, and calming, in all situationsResilience to help people keep boundaries to ensure safetyGood at explaining and negotiatingAbility to communicate effectively and supportively with family, colleagues and the person you supportAbility and willingness to provide support and motivation with personal cares and daily living skillsExcellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English is a prerequisiteThe ideal candidate will haveAn interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification — we can support you to achieve this while you workExperience supporting people with disabilities, and/or mental health issues, and/or behaviours that can be challenging is desirable but not necessaryReliability, commitment, and passion for working with peopleA full New Zealand driver's licenceAble to pass a NZ police checkThe ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and emailINZ Level 3 requirements for non-residentsHave worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, and been paid at least the care workforce wage rate during that timeOR a relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2Apply nowApply now if you have a passion for working with people and want to make a difference!
